The three year long fight for North Africa was against a daunting enemy and hundreds of thousands of lives were devastated. Allied counties from across the globe fought to drive the Axis from North Africa. Each side struggled to win, as they moved back and forth along the coast in the blistering heat. The notorious German Field Marshal Erwin Rommel fought hard to win North Africa for the Axis. The end result of the campaign would aid the Allies in winning the war.
Hong Kong was very difficult to defend for the Canadians and their allies against the Japanese, because it included Hong Kong island, as well as areas on the Mainland. There were a few strategic points that needed to be defended to ensure the control of Hong Kong. The Japanese forces were overwhelming in numbers and vehicles, it led to the retreat of the Canadians. Although the brave Canadian soldiers didn't give up until they were forced to by the governor of Hong Kong, many of them were taken prisoner by the Japanese in the end. It is truly sad that they lost this battle, because they might have had a chance if their reinforcements had arrived in time.
